”Mau,” my cat says, looking at me expectantly. Her tail swishes fluidly, and she licks her lips.

I look away from her and go back to typing.

My cat nuzzles her way past my arms and onto my keyboard. She looks at me with those adorable, wide eyes, and she starts purring. “Mau,” she says again, pawing at my hand. “Mau.”

“In a little bit,” I answer, glancing back at the computer screen. “Mommy’s busy.”

She stares at me for a while longer. Then in one fluid movement, she turns in a full circle, clockwise, on my keyboard. The screen goes blank moments later. She’s turned the laptop off completely.

I open my mouth to chastise her, but she interrupts. “Mau,” she says once more, and then she says, “Feed me.”

Never have I moved so quickly, nor has she ever looked so damn proud of herself.
